Japanese menswear brand Discovered was founded in 2001 by Tatsuya Kimura and Sanae Yoshida. The concept for their menswear collection was a “real clothes” aesthetic with sleek lines and monochromatic palettes. They also enjoy juxtaposing contradictory themes – such as in their 2010 A/W collection show, in which delicately faced models were dressed in tough-looking ensembles.
The title of the Discovered 2012 S/S collection presented as part of the Versus Tokyo event at Japan Fashion week was “Tribe”. Looking at the collection, it appears that the designer is more likely referring to urban tribes than native ones. Influences here likely included biker gangs and street gangs – with oversized tops, bandana headgear, chino-style pants, leather jackets, and tattoos prominently featured.
